WATER SAVING
IDEAS AND TIPS
INDOORS AND OUT!
Fix leaks right away!
|
A dripping faucet can
waste more than 3,000 gallons of water
a year and add a substantial
unnecessary cost to your bill.
|
Prepare food efficiently.
|
Use a vegetable brush.
Use water in short bursts.
|
Install low flow faucet
aerators, flow restrictors, toilet
tank displacement bags, and low flow
showerheads.
|
The Water Authority
of Great Neck North provides a FREE
showerhead exchange program offering
all of the above devices.
|
Replace bathroom Fixtures.
|
An ultra low flush
toilet uses only 1.6 gallons of water
per flush, as opposed to 3.5 to 8
gallons per flush for older models.
|
Landscape your property with
plants and trees that require little
water or only rainfall.
|

landscape ideas, visit the Water

WAYS TO FIND
LEAKS
If
you find that your water bills are higher
than normal, you are urged to call the
Water Authority at 516-487-7973 to
schedule a free leak inspection.
A Water Authority employee will examine
indoor plumbing fixtures to see if leaks
exist. The Water Authority will also offer
you water saving fixtures to aid in water
conservation.
You may also stop by the Authority to
obtain a water conservation kit which
contains dye tablets that will help you
identify toilet leaks.
If you suspect a leak, the easiest way to
find out is to check your water meter.
Be sure to turn off ALL water fixtures,
observe your water meter. If the meter is
turning, you either have not closed all
water fixtures, or a leak exists somewhere
in your system. This is the time to call a
plumber to have repairs made. Remember,
the Water Authority can check for leaks,
but you must call your own plumber if
repairs are necessary. |
